AAAA is a domain record, that is basically the IPv6 address of the server where the domain is hosted. The IPv6 system was introduced to replace the existing IPv4 system where each and every IP comprises of 4 groups of decimal numbers between 1 to 255 e.g. 5.168.208.143. In contrast, an IPv6 address features 8 sets of four hexadecimal digits - which range from 0 to 9 and from A to F. The cause of this change is the substantially smaller range of unique IPs the present system supports and also the fast increase of devices that are connected to the Internet. An example of an IPv6 address is 2101:1f34:32e2:2415:1365:4f2b:2553:1345. If you need to forward a domain to a server which uses this sort of an address, you will need to set up an AAAA record for it, not the commonly used A record, that is an IPv4 address. The two records deliver the exact same function, but different notations are used, so as to differentiate the two forms of addresses.

AAAA Records in Shared Web Hosting

If you wish to use a domain or a subdomain you have within a shared web hosting account on our end for any third-party service and you need to create an AAAA record for that, it won't take you more than only a few mouse clicks to do that by using our highly effective, though easy-to-use Hepsia Control Panel. When you navigate to the DNS Records section and click on the Create a New Record button, a compact pop-up will appear. This is the area in which you can set up any DNS record, so you only have to pick the needed domain name or subdomain and the type of record through drop-down menus and type in the IPv6 address, that is the actual record. Even if you have zero experience with such matters, you'll not have any problems as Hepsia is quite user-friendly and your new AAAA record will propagate within the hour, so that you can start using your domain/subdomain with the other company. If they require it, you're also going to be able to edit the Time To Live (TTL) value for the record, defining how long it'll remain active in the global DNS system after you edit it or delete it.

AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

In case you have a semi-dedicated server account from our company and you need to set up an AAAA record for a domain you have hosted in it or a subdomain you've set up, it'll take you just a few mouse clicks inside the Hepsia CP to accomplish this. Even when you have never had a website hosting account before, you will not experience any issues as you will use a very simple and easy-to-use interface. All the DNS records for your domain names will be listed in a section of the CP with the exact same name, so when you go there, you will see all records that have been created automatically or manually and you are going to be able to set up a new one by simply clicking on the corresponding button. A small pop-up will appear, so with just a couple of clicks you can pick the type of record you need and for which domain or subdomain it's going to be created. Next, simply paste the IPv6 address within a text box, save the modification and an hour later the new AAAA record is going to be fully active. As an optional setting, you may choose how long this record will be active after you modify it or delete it in the future. That is the so-called TTL, or Time To Live value of the record, which you can modify from the default 3600 seconds in case the other provider demands it.
